In 2019, at a graduation ceremony, a speaker said something that stayed with us:
“Some of the jobs you will be doing after university haven’t been invented yet.”
At the time, it sounded abstract. Today, it’s reality.
One of those jobs is Corporate Storytelling, a role that didn’t formally exist five years ago, but is quickly becoming one of the most urgent and impactful careers on the continent.
Why? Because the world doesn’t just run on data or systems. It runs on stories.
Stories that earn trust.
Stories that raise funds.
Stories that inspire action.
Governments need them to explain the impact of policy.
NGOs need them to win grants and rally communities.
Startups need them to attract funding and scale.
And Africa, perhaps more than anywhere else, needs storytellers to reclaim its narrative on the global stage.
Enter Story X Lab .
Three weeks ago, a bold experiment began at Mswitch Creative Hub: StoryXLab, a storytelling incubator designed to raise the next generation of African corporate storytellers.
Inside this first cohort, journalists, creatives, social advocates, and young professionals are discovering how to transform raw ideas into narratives that move industries, communities, and nations forward.
They are learning the craft of storytelling, mastering the tools of the digital age, honing their positioning as professionals, and exploring how to monetize their skills.
And in doing so, they are stepping directly into Africa’s growing creative digital economy; an economy where content is currency, ideas fuel industries, and storytelling sits at the heart of innovation and growth. This program is not just relevant to the creative digital economy, it is powering it. By equipping storytellers with the skills to craft, scale, and monetize their work, the StoryXLab Program is building a generation of creators who will drive jobs, shape markets, and open new frontiers of opportunity across the continent.
Why Now?
Because storytelling is the missing infrastructure.
It is the bridge between vision and understanding.
The spark between organizations and the people they serve.
Without storytellers, policies fall flat, innovations go unseen, and even communities may feel unheard.
The Future is Written in Stories
By 2030, Story X Lab has set a bold goal: to train 20,000 storytellers across Africa.
These voices will help governments explain impact, startups build trust, NGOs secure funding, and communities feel seen.
And here’s the truth: what’s happening in this first cohort is only the beginning.
The Job That Didn’t Exist… Until Now
Corporate storytelling may not have been a career path five years ago. But today, it’s becoming one of the most important roles of the digital economy – one that blends creativity, technology, and social impact.
The storytellers in Story X Lab are not just learning to create content. They are becoming the architects of Africa’s future narratives.
Because the stories being told today will shape the Africa the world remembers tomorrow.
The Invitation
Every movement begins with a story; and this one is just starting. Story X Lab is building something bigger than a program; it’s building the future of how Africa communicates, connects, and initiates change.
If you believe in the power of stories to shape the future, there’s room to be part of this journey. Together, we can amplify voices, unlock opportunities, and fuel a storytelling renaissance that the continent and the world has been waiting for.
The Job That Didn’t Exist – Until Now
In 2019, a line from a graduation speech lingered long after the ceremony ended:
“Some of the jobs you will be doing after university haven’t been invented yet.”
Back then it felt abstract. Today, that line echoes in reality. One such job is Corporate Storytelling—a role virtually unknown five years ago, but now rising at the heart of Africa’s creative renaissance.
Because the World Runs on Stories
Beyond systems and data, the world turns on narratives – stories that build trust, attract investment, and propel action. Governments use them to explain policies; NGOs to rally communities; startups to scale. Crucially, Africa needs storytellers not just to tell stories, but to reclaim its own narrative globally – especially as:
- Africa’s creative industries are valued at nearly $59 billion but represent less than 3% of the $2 trillion global creative economy (Semafor).
- The creator economy in Africa reached $3.08 billion in 2023, projected to soar to $17.84 billion by 2030, growing at a staggering CAGR of 28.5% (The Creative Brief).
Enter StoryXLab: Africa’s Storytelling Incubator
At the heart of Mswitch Creative Hub (part of the broader Mswitch Group), we launched StoryXLab – a bold incubation of corporate storytellers. Here, journalists, creatives, social advocates, and emerging professionals are learning not just to write, but to transform raw ideas into narratives that shift industries and shape legacies.
Meanwhile, Africa’s creative sector is gaining ground:
- By 2030, the continent is projected to contribute 10% of global creative exports, valued at $200 billion, and create over 20 million jobs (The Africa CEO Forum).
- Currently, Africa accounts for just 1.5% of the global creative economy, and 5% of global creative industry jobs, but is growing rapidly (Brookings, Project Syndicate).
StoryXLab sits at the convergence of creativity, technology, and human capital. It’s not just keeping pace – it’s fueling Africa’s creative digital economy, where content is currency, and storytellers are creators and entrepreneurs.
Why This Moment Matters
Because storytelling is the bridge between vision and connection – the spark that links policies to people. Without it, even the most radical ideas fall silent. StoryXLab is building that bridge, equipping Africans with the craft, tools, and mindset to lead the continent’s creative growth.
The Bigger Vision: Mswitch Group in the Creative Economy
As a group – including Mswitch Media, Creative Hub, and Techspecialist Consulting – we’re weaving a narrative ecosystem where content, digital innovation, and human capital drive transformation. Our moonshot: by 2030, train 20,000 storytellers across Africa – voices that:
- Help governments communicate impact.
- Empower startups to scale trust.
- Equip NGOs to sustain change.
- Give communities a platform to be understood.
We’re not just preparing storytellers. We’re shaping the architects of Africa’s future narrative.
The Invitation: Join the Story Movement
Every revolution starts with a story. StoryXLab – powered by Mswitch Creative Hub – is writing Africa’s next chapter. If you believe in the power of stories to shape futures, there’s a seat at the table.
Let’s come together to amplify African voices, unlock creative opportunities, and spark a storytelling renaissance the world has been waiting for.
